So it's that time of year where everyone starts to go berserk in the stores. They start running you over in the parking lots trying to get the parking spots and when they get in the stores they begin macing each other over the last toy. Yep, it's Christmas! Yesterday my mom and I went shopping for my boys to buy some presents for them. Now, we're on a restricted budget because we don't have a lot of income coming into our home....for now. Oh yea, did I mention I live with my mother? Anyhoo, we made the mistake of going to Toys R US. What in the world were we thinking!? It looked as if every person in Memphis was off work yesterday. That place was ransacked, there were toys and ad papers all over the floor, and people were just bum rushing all over the place. You would have thought it was the end of the world and Jesus told everyone they had to go out and get a specific toy in order to get into heaven! It was crazy. Soon as I walked in, I wanted to turn around. But, my mother wanted to buy some things for the rugrats so I kept trucking. Well we looked and found everything she saw online and wouldn't you know it, the things we bought were 50% off. So hey, that was great. Here was the fun part. Being in line for almost an eternity! OMG! I felt so sorry for the employees. I have been a cashier and I know what it's like to wait on bitter, bitchy jerks who don't give a flying flip what you have to go through standing there having to put up with their attitudes and their sarcasm. Come on admit it, we have all done it once or twice. Give them a break. You know why the cashiers get snappy?? Let me let you in on a lil secret. Because they stand on their feet all day, get few breaks so they almost pee on themselves half the time, they deal with irate brats (adults), and most of all they usually have bosses telling them what to do but they never do CRAP! So have some compassion!
Anyway, let's ask ourselves this...while we're out there going cuckoo for cocoa puffs trying to buy presents that we rarely use and get broken after three days, are we acknowledging the true meaning of Christmas? It may sound cliche, but it's true. We forget the real meaning and get caught up in everything else. Just trying to give you something to think about. I'll be back later!!
